Frequently Asked Questions
Who can train?
Training is for everybody and it looks different for everybody! I happily work and have worked with everyone from high school athletes to 70 year old clients coming to the gym for the first time in their lives. There are no prerequisites for training other than a desire to make some improvements in life.
Do I need equipment?
While training together no equipment is needed, but it may be helpful depending on your goals. Many of my clients simply use a collection of dumbbells and resistance bands that they have obtained over the years. I believe that a great workout can be created with minimal or no equipment.
What experience do I need?
While working together no experience is required. I take pride in meeting my clients where they are with their heath. Well trained, new to the gym, recovering from an injury. I enjoy the assessment and program design for my clients. Experienced clients receive more challenging programs to help progress toward their goals, whereas new clients will be met exactly where they are. We are all somewhere along the journey, I’d love to have a talk with you about where you are and how I can help you.
What intensity will we work at?
Intensity is one of the primary principles for progress. Intensity can be altered for you via time, frequency, weight, tempo, range of motion, position, etc. . . Some clients need more intensity than others. It all depends on where you currently stand with exercise and health. If you have been sedentary for some time, your intensity will certainly be lower than someone who has been working out for weeks. That is okay! We’re going to work exactly at the intensity that you need!
Can I train if I currently have limitations?
Limitations are a great reason to work with a coach. A good coach will be aware of your limitations and help you workout in ways that you maybe hadn’t thought of. With over ten years of experience, I have spent significant time working with clients with physical limitations related to injury, age, preferences, etc. . . If you have limitations, that is okay. We can most certainly work with them. It's important to remember that we are all individuals who deserve individualized exercise plans.
How does virtual training differ from in-person training?
Virtual Training and In-Person Training are both personal-training. The difference is the locations in which we work together. In-Person we meet at the gym, your home, or a local spot. Virtually, we work through Zoom from our respective spaces. However we work together, you get my undivided attention during our sessions. Virtual Training comes with the great convenience of privacy and zero-commute time. In-Person Training has a slight advantage over Virtual in that we are working together in real-time. Sometimes working alongside another person in the same room is preferable. Both options have distinct advantages. Which one might be right for you depends largely on your schedule, preferences, and comfort. I would be happy to have a discussion about which option may be best for you.
